Hannover's local training activities are aiming to develop measures for planning, operation and maintenance of renewable energy systems, assisting the implementation of an advanced energy-efficient standard of retrofitting and to improve skills for retrofitting construction. The local training courses are raising the qualification level of protagonists and ensure the quality of work in the foreseen demonstration sites. The target groups of the local training courses in Hannover are local experts and professionals like plumbing companies, engineers and technicians, property developers, builders and contractors.

Several draftsmen and architects / engineers have been trained on specific topics for the demonstration projects. Furthermore a handbook for short term trainings has been elaborated and published in German and English. For more information see Training Brochure act2 briefing

Nantes Métropole Communauté Urbaine jointly elaborated with its Nantes partners (ADEME, SAMOA and Ville de Nantes) a common training concept for special target groups. In the first training phase 2007 / 2008 Nantes partners focused on short term trainings for local stakeholders and partners as well as local and regional construction developers and end-users. Because several trainings are dedicated to construction companies their training is planned for 2009 to 2011. For more information see Link zu Nantes training section

Koszalin
The Observer City Koszalin works closely with the Technical University of Koszalin (http://www.tu.koszalin.pl) and offered trainings for students or engineers in cooperation with the Municipal Heating Company MEC (http://www.meckoszalin.pl) . The focus was on the implication of the extension of the district heating net in Koszalin.

Newcastle
Targeted and supported regional training events around the key project themes of sustainable communities, sustainable buildings, sustainable energy and future challenges. These were undertaken in partnership with Northern Architecture, the North East of England's Regional Centre of Excellence within the Built Environment. There was a series of five events held between November 2007 and March 2008.
The seminars looked at the differing scales of intervention [cities, communities, buildings, resources] with invited speakers presented the current project experience on the regeneration of Scotswood in the West End of Newcastle, the process of masterplanning [with a case study from Dongtan Eco-City in Shanghai, China] and the role that people can play in the regeneration and reclamation of their own neighbourhoods. They specifically debated the substantive challenges of zero carbon buildings and renewable energy and the processes necessary to deliver them.
